SPAM Email general basics
Also the world of SPAM email, let’s deal with SPAM email general basics. Unsubscribe, block and prevent – Topics at a glance.
The world of SPAM mails is also constantly changing – as are the countermeasures.
Most SPAM emails are no longer filtered using traditional lists of SPAM senders, but increasingly by blocking individual contacts. In the video, I show you how this works with Apple and Google.
The most important thing is that you understand the system behind it – only then can you be successful in the fight against SPAM.
General
My former favorite mug had the imprint:
If your data is in the IT system,
any pig knows your data.
Unfortunately, this is more than true, and the GDPR is also just – more or less – a collection of so-called guidelines. Everyone interprets them as they see fit. Real European rubber paragraphs – like something out of a picture book.
However, there are also some useful elements in the GDPR, such as the “right to be forgotten”. This allows you to request that your data be deleted. In practice, however, this is rarely implemented. In most cases, you will receive emails again one or two years later 😂
How do you come up with SPAM?
Former customer
With a reputable company, you can delete your account yourself under “Your profile / Account”. You will then usually receive an email stating: “Your account has been deleted.”
However, many companies will continue to send you emails even after your account has been deleted. Well 🧐, that brings us back to the topic: “Good company, bad company”.
The good company – usually based in the EU and compliant with the GDPR – provides a clear link to unsubscribe from emailing.
The evil company – often based outside the EU – only provides a generic link to “unsubscribe from emails” or asks you to contact customer service by email.
I explain this area using specific examples in the video.

With some providers, you can’t unsubscribe at all – you’ll be spammed with emails whether you want to or not.
In such cases, it helps to block the sender directly in your address book or email program. In the video, I show you how this works with Apple and Google.
Data Broker
Statements like “I didn’t order that”, “I didn’t register there”, “I don’t know the store at all” or – especially here in Asia – “I don’t know the woman” (usually gets really “exciting” when the life partner is standing next to it cooking (in the figurative sense) 😁)
In this case, you have ended up with a so-called data broker. These companies or people make a living from trading data – your data. Once you are in their system, you can basically forget about your email address. The most sensible step is often to create a new email address.
One service I can mention is incogni.com. This service helps to protect you by removing your data from the lists of data brokers. I know this from the experiences of others who use this service. I don’t currently need this service myself.
Blocking and unsubscribing from SPAM mails
In the video, I explain which emails you can easily unsubscribe from and which you cannot. I also show you how to block a contact if it is not possible to unsubscribe.
Pi-Hole
If you are using a Pi-Hole, you can add the domain “bravo.com” to the blocklist in this case, as shown in the video.
Important: Do not add www.brevo.com, https://www.brevo.com or https://brevo.com, as otherwise emails with the address “…@brevo.com” will continue to get through.
If you are interested in Pi-Hole, you can find everything on this topic at:
Prevent
How do you end up with a data broker in the first place?
It’s simple: all it takes is a moment of carelessness, such as placing an order in a small store, entering your email address when creating a customer account (without then being able to use the site) or a request for a quote sent to your email address. The list often includes companies that “unadvertise” on Facebook, Instagram and/or TikTok.
Always use a second email address for such cases, not your main address! You can quickly create a second email address with Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc. If the spam volume on this second address reaches the maximum tolerable level, you can simply delete the address. Then create a new e-mail address and register with the companies again to continue receiving the information that interests you.
Apple users can simply use the “Hide email address” function, which you can find in the iCloud settings.
