Video: Transfer or restore Android phone with Google

Language: 🇩🇪
☝️ Use YouTube subtitles for all languages.

Start the device and begin setup

Switch on the device and follow the first steps such as selecting the language, connecting to Wi-Fi and agreeing to the general terms of use.

Sign in with your Google account

Sign in with the Google account you used to make a backup. If you are using the screen lock from your old device, Google may ask you to verify that you are authorized.

Select backup

You will be shown a list of available backups. Select the appropriate backup that belongs to your previous device. You can decide which data (apps, call history, settings, etc.) should be restored.

Start recovery

Once you have selected the backup, the restore will start automatically. Your apps, settings, contacts, calendar and possibly also text messages will be transferred to the device.

Ready to set up and maintain

The restoration usually continues in the background, during which I recommend not using the device, I have often achieved better results than the impatient ones. Depending on the amount of data and the connection, it may take a while for everything to load completely.

Swipe from top to bottom on the display to show the notifications. There you can see the active tasks and how far they have progressed.

Once completed, you can confidently set the biometric security, PIN etc.. These are not transferred. Also check your apps, there is usually a lot to configure, especially for banking.

Additional notes

Google Photos and Google Drive back up images and files separately. These contents appear automatically as soon as you open the respective app. In the video, I include the photos in the backup, as there are people who do not upload their photos to Google. So they have deactivated the photo sync.

For special apps such as WhatsApp or LINE, the backup usually has to be restored within the app itself, provided you have previously made a Google Drive backup.
